Parents at Pontprennau Primary School say they are annoyed the school no longer has a crossing patrol officer.
Their patrol officer – Vicky O’Neil – has been moved to Radyr Primary School to replace somebody who is on long term sick leave.
Parents say the crossing outside the Primary School is unsafe as cars travel quickly down the road.
Paul Bricknell, who lives in Pontprennau says, “We’ve had the crossing patrol officer outside the school since October, but now she has been taken away to service another crossing.
“It’s a very very busy road at school times, particularly in the mornings as it is a main commuter road as well as a residential road. There is an awful lot of traffic that passes this way on its way to the M4 and the by-pass.
“The problem is so bad we have had to involve the local police community officers. It is really important that we get the kids protected from all this traffic.”
Dianne Rees, Conservative councillor of Pontprennau and Old St Mellons says, “The reason we have a mobile officer is because we still don’t have signage and a 20 mph zone in place. In fact there was some suggestion that we might get a permanent school safety officer by April.”
“There is an enormous amount of traffic particularly through traffic to get to junction 30 of the M4, that is a particularly concerning route. I have even had Officers out here to look at it.”
Cardiff City Council have been contacted for comment.
