Businesses in Rhiwbina claim they have lost significant money after gas works closed the main road for three weeks.
Heol-y-Deri has now reopened after what Wales & West Utilities call “essential work” to replace 100-year-old gas pipes.
Butcher Ray Hill says the closure severely damaged profits because fewer people came to his shop, forcing him to reduce opening hours.
“It’s disrupted trade a lot with customers not being able to get here,” Mr Hill said.
Meanwhile, Sandra Thomas, who is a volunteer at the charity shop Tenovus Cancer Care, said she had seen a drop in donations.
“A lot of people have stopped popping in now because the road has been closed and I really hope they come back now it is back open.”
Conservative Councillor for Rhiwbina, Adrian Robson said he and his fellow local councillors had done all they could to make sure businesses were affected as little as possible.
“We have been putting information out on social media and have been in constant contact with Wales & West,” Cllr Robson said.
Councillor Robson said he had met residents on Pantmawr Road to listen to their concerns.
“Unfortunately it is work that has to be done and there is no other option,” he added.
The next phase of repair works begins on Saturday, 17 February on Pantmawr Road and should last around a week.
Lengthy delays are expected on the road as well as on nearby Rhiwbina Hill.
