‘Nightmare’ parking on Whitchurch Road is risking children’s lives say local people, who want more spaces.
Iolo Williams is the Deputy Head of Mynnydd Bychan Primary School on Whitchurch Road.
He wants Cardiff Council to take action, saying: “On more than one occasion we’ve had accidents outside the school gates.”
“People are stopping in places where they shouldn’t because there’s nowhere else to park. We don’t have enough space on-site to create more spaces but I think more needs to be done.”
Whitchurch Road is one of the busiest roads in Cardiff, linking the Heath, Cathays and Gabalfa areas.
82 people have signed a petition to Cardiff Council to fix the parking problems in the area. They want Cardiff Council to consider measures such as creating more spaces or allowing people to use the nearby multi-storey which is used by Companies House.
Resident Iain Claridge says finding a space for himself after work is almost impossible, he said “The parking situation on this road is just a nightmare”
He added he is often forced into “parking about five streets away from where I actually live, even though I have a permit”.
Cardiff Council were unavailable for comment.
