{"id":13240,"date":"2016-11-07T17:19:33","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T17:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=13240"},"modified":"2016-11-28T15:35:46","modified_gmt":"2016-11-28T15:35:46","slug":"struggling-families-cardiff-ely-benefit-cap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/struggling-families-cardiff-ely-benefit-cap\/","title":{"rendered":"Struggling families in Cardiff face the reality of a lower benefit cap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People in Cardiff who are being hit by the UK government&#8217;s new benefit cap have been talking about how it will affect their lives.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Cardiff Council says more than 1,000 people will be affected by the cuts that have been\u00a0introduced across the UK today.<\/p>\n<p>The people affected will be\u00a0up to \u00a3115 worse off a week and those already living on the poverty line will struggle.<\/p>\n<p>The cap &#8211; which has been reduced from \u00a326,000 to \u00a320,000 outside of London &#8211; will limit the amount of money a household can receive in benefits. This figure will include Child Benefit, Child Tax Credit, Jobseekers&#8217; Allowance and Universal Credit.<\/p>\n<p>It means that people\u00a0like father-of-three Christopher Davies from Ely could lose \u00a350 a week in housing benefit. \u00a0Mr Davies says\u00a0he\u00a0got laid off a few months ago and the drop in money had already become a problem for him. He says the\u00a0cap will now\u00a0put even more pressure on him to\u00a0find work.<\/p>\n<p>Nerys Sheehan, from the\u00a0community organisation\u00a0Action in Caerau and Ely, says the cap is going to cause more hardship for families who are already struggling between heating and eating.
