A Cardiff based scout group has launched a campaign to raise \u00a3100,000 to\u00a0buy a new home after their National Lottery funding application was rejected.<\/p>\n
The Second Llandaff Scout Group, who have history stretching back nearly 100 years, meet at Methodist URC Church in Llandaff North and were faced with a difficult decision\u00a0last December after being left with the choice of either raising \u00a3250,000 to buy the site or find a new home.<\/p>\n
The group has occupied its current home on Bellevue Crescent for almost 40 years, but now the land is for sale.<\/p>\n
They have already raised \u00a3150,000 through various projects including an auctioned autographed shirt from Wales and Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale.<\/p>\n
But they were given a huge set-back after their Lottery funding application was rejected.<\/p>\n
The group were expected to leave\u00a0the hall space this month, but Assistant group Scout leader Abigail Gibbons said “The church has been incredibly helpful during the process in allowing us to stay until mid-January. However, our aim is\u00a0really find a permanent home for ourselves.<\/p>\n
“The (Lottery) rejection was surprising and led to devastation\u00a0within the group.”<\/p>\n
She said there are plans to resubmit the application and explore alternative options through the Welsh Government.<\/p>\n
