A park in Ely opened by Princess Diana in the 1990s is being restored by a local community group.<\/p>\n

The Princess Diana park on Hiles Road was forced to close 10 years ago because of\u00a0problems with\u00a0anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n

The plot is owned by the City of Cardiff Council but community group Action in Caerau and Ely has got a licence to occupy the land and restore it into a green space to\u00a0grow produce for people living in the area.<\/p>\n

Carey Davies, from Action in Caerau and Ely says “The idea was born from neighbours who wanted to try and reuse the park from the memories they had as kids growing up.<\/p>\n

“There is a lot of work to do but there is a lot of interest from the community.”<\/p>\n

Mr Davies says the restoration of the Princess Diana park can be a model for other projects and\u00a0they plan to take over other plots of land to bring them back into use.<\/p>\n

“I can show you a map of a dozen spaces in Ely and Caerau alone that have just been stuck behind houses and forgotten about.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Action in Caerau and Ely\u00a0have secured some funding from the charity Buglife who are interested in the park’s wildlife. But Mr Davies says they\u00a0are still looking for more financial support.<\/p>\n
