{"id":14707,"date":"2017-01-24T14:23:44","date_gmt":"2017-01-24T14:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=14707"},"modified":"2017-01-26T21:08:26","modified_gmt":"2017-01-26T21:08:26","slug":"bute-park-visitors-call-on-council-to-replace-diesel-vans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/bute-park-visitors-call-on-council-to-replace-diesel-vans\/","title":{"rendered":"Bute Park visitors call on Council to replace diesel vans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regular users of Cardiff&#8217;s Bute Park are calling on the council to replace diesel vans used by groundsmen.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>They say the diesel vehicles are bad for the environment and are calling for them to be replaced with electric ones which are more environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<p>They also say the vans currently used by Cardiff City Council cut up grass verges in the park, spreading mud onto the pavement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rather sad that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/buteparkcardiff\">@buteparkcardiff<\/a> \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cardiffcouncil\">@cardiffcouncil<\/a> use diesel vehicles in the beautiful Bute Park- and push pedestrians\/cycles out the way.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bike Commuter (@BikeCommuter2) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BikeCommuter2\/status\/821275660094160896\">January 17, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Ken Barker, secretary for the Cardiff and Vale Green Party, said: &#8220;There are objections to large diesel engine vehicles in the park and destroying the peacefulness of the park, and also causing annoyance because of the pollution of diesel vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Diesel is now understood to be a polluting process and we should be doing our best to cut it down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cardiff City Council say they are in the process of making the vans smaller and say damaged verges will be replaced.<\/p>\n<p>But, they did not say whether the new vehicles would be more environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/beicwrtaff\">@beicwrtaff<\/a> Hi, we&#39;re in the process of sourcing narrower vehicles to prevent this from happening. They should also pass on the message to suppliers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If the use of the of diesel vans does continue, Mr. Barker says it could harm the peaceful nature of the park.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are destroying the peacefulness of the park. People feel the park is not for them. Cardiff Council needs to take a leap in discouraging diesel vehicles.
