{"id":14899,"date":"2017-01-27T16:16:44","date_gmt":"2017-01-27T16:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=14899"},"modified":"2017-01-27T16:16:44","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T16:16:44","slug":"film-maker-john-akomfrah-wins-artes-mundi-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/film-maker-john-akomfrah-wins-artes-mundi-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Film maker John Akomfrah wins Artes Mundi prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A London-based film maker, John Akomfrah, has won this year&#8217;s Artes Mundi contemporary art prize at \u00a0a ceremony at the National Museum Cardiff.<\/p>\n<p>John Akomfrah&#8217;s work &#8216;Auto Da F\u00e9&#8217; which translates as &#8216;Act of faith&#8217; is a forty minute film about Jewish immigrants who fled \u00a0to Barbados from Brazil in the 17th century.<\/p>\n<p>At the ceremony last night Mr Akomfrah said he was &#8216;absolutely touched&#8217; to win the award. He also used his speech to talk about immigration after Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>Along with\u00a0the award Mr Akomfrah has won \u00a340,000. He has said that he will use the money to make another film.<\/p>\n<p>The film is currently \u00a0on show at \u00a0National Museum Cardiff and at Chapter Arts Centre until February 26th, along with the work of all the six finalists.<\/p>\n<p>Welsh artist Bedwyr Williams was also a winner on the night.
