{"id":15135,"date":"2017-01-31T16:11:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T16:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=15135"},"modified":"2017-01-31T17:55:34","modified_gmt":"2017-01-31T17:55:34","slug":"performance-ratings-released-for-cardiff-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/performance-ratings-released-for-cardiff-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Performance ratings released for Cardiff Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>40 Schools in Cardiff\u00a0have made the top &#8220;green&#8221; category in the latest Welsh Government schools performance ratings.<\/p>\n<p>But five Cardiff schools are in the &#8220;red zone&#8221;. These include three secondary schools; Eastern High School, Glyn Derw High School and Michaelston Community College and two primary schools; Trelai Primary School and Trowbridge Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>The Government&#8217;s report says these five schools will be given &#8220;immediate and intensive support&#8221; and they will receive\u00a0at least 25 days of support in the next year.<\/p>\n<p>The Welsh Government&#8217;s colour-coded system uses four categories &#8211; green, yellow, amber and red. Schools in the &#8220;green&#8221; category do not need much support while schools graded &#8220;red&#8221; need more support.<\/p>\n<p>Overall Welsh schools have performed better since last year&#8217;s results with nearly a hundred more entering the &#8220;green zone&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>425 of the schools in Wales have been categorised as &#8220;green&#8221;. This is up from 333 last year.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve fewer schools have been graded red, with the total falling from fifty-eight to forty-six.<\/p>\n<p>But Rob Williams, Director of Policy for the National Association of Head Teachers Cymru (NAHT), the school leaders\u2019 union for Wales, says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNAHT welcomes data that illustrates the progress being made by school leaders and their staff on behalf of their pupils.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still believe that for categorisation to work at its best, it needs to be part of a co-ordinated school improvement system in Wales, align with other processes and encourage and support a self-improving system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams said in a statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis system is not about grading, labeling or creating crude league tables but about providing support and encouraging improvement in our schools.
