{"id":15440,"date":"2017-02-07T14:39:23","date_gmt":"2017-02-07T14:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=15440"},"modified":"2017-02-07T15:07:07","modified_gmt":"2017-02-07T15:07:07","slug":"green-party-co-leader-calls-for-sustainable-power-in-cardiff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/green-party-co-leader-calls-for-sustainable-power-in-cardiff\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Party co-leader calls for sustainable power in Cardiff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The co-leader of The Green Party is\u00a0in the Penarth area today talking to locals about how Cardiff can become a greener city.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Bartley, who was elected in September, is also meeting with the company that is planning to build the new lagoon &#8211; Tidal Lagoon Power, to\u00a0push forward plans for the project.\u00a0They say Cardiff will benefit massively from a tidal lagoon because they are the longest-lasting type of renewable energy with a lifespan of around 120 years. They also say lagoons are the cheapest way of producing green energy.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bartley says &#8220;We need\u00a0more clean, renewable energy sources rather than nuclear stations like Hinckley.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0is\u00a0visiting Penarth to\u00a0support Anthony Slaughter who is the Green Party candidate in\u00a0the local council election.<\/p>\n<p>The chair of the Environmental Scrutiny Committee for Cardiff City Council, Paul Mitchell, has criticised the tidal lagoon. He says it stops fish from the\u00a0Rhymney River getting out into the Severn.
