The Welsh Government has announced they will be investing more than \u00a315 million in higher quality apprenticeships.<\/p>\n

The policy wants to get more apprentices into higher level training, which will be equivalent to a degree.<\/p>\n

It will cater for all ages but focus on increasing the number of 16-19 year olds in apprenticeships.<\/p>\n

The Welsh Government says higher level training will benefit both apprentices and the economy.<\/p>\n

They say they’re hoping the extra funding will focus on shortages in construction, IT and engineering.<\/p>\n

One third of apprenticeships in Wales are currently in health and social care.<\/p>\n

The Welsh Government say they are hoping to have more than 100,000 new apprentices by 2021.<\/p>\n

Cardiff and Vale College take on\u00a0more than 2,000 apprentices every year and offer apprenticeships\u00a0to 326 organisations across South Wales.<\/p>\n

Andrew Whitcombe is the Dean\u00a0of Work Based Learning at Cardiff and Vale College. He says “The injection of 15 million is more than welcome.<\/p>\n

“It enables us to engage more\u00a0employers and more young people to deliver apprenticeship programmes.”<\/p>\n

He says “The drive towards the higher skill frameworks that the Welsh Government is trying to achieve… is good news for colleges, for the other providers and for the economy.”<\/p>\n
