{"id":15653,"date":"2017-02-10T16:15:39","date_gmt":"2017-02-10T16:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=15653"},"modified":"2017-02-10T16:15:39","modified_gmt":"2017-02-10T16:15:39","slug":"waitrose-may-close-cardiff-city-centre-branch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/waitrose-may-close-cardiff-city-centre-branch\/","title":{"rendered":"Waitrose may close Cardiff city centre branch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Waitrose is considering closing its only store in Cardiff city centre on Queen Street.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Thirty four people are currently employed in the store which opened in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The company says it has found trading difficult in the six years it has been open.<\/p>\n<p>James Armstrong, Corporate Communications Manager for Waitrose, says &#8220;We opened with every intention of being in the area for a long time.&#8221; He says Waitrose have found it\u00a0harder\u00a0than expected to make a profit\u00a0and &#8220;like every business we have to make these tough decisions&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Armstrong added that closing the Queen Street branch is &#8220;still just\u00a0a proposal&#8221; and Waitrose\u00a0will hold talks with all thirty four members of staff over the next few weeks before making a final decision.<\/p>\n<p>The Queen Street branch is one of six that may be closed next summer. Waitrose says it will open eight new\u00a0stores\u00a0but none of these will be in Wales.
