A local councillor\u00a0wants Fixed Penalty Notices and permit restrictions for builders in Cathays. <\/p>\n
Labour Councillor Chris Weaver for Cathays says residents are concerned with the number of builders’ vans that are parking in resident bays as well as the waste left on the roads by the tradesmen. The waste includes bricks, blocks and sandbags\u00a0which cause obstructions to the roads, as well as sandbags\u00a0splitting and blocking drains.<\/p>\n
Councillor Weaver\u00a0says this creates a lot of mess\u00a0and has\u00a0been an ongoing issue which has been raised during local PACT meetings. Some of the affected roads include Richards Street, Thesiger Street\u00a0and Coburn Street.<\/p>\n
Councillor Weaver says: “I live in Cathays as well and it’s frustrating. We know that parking is at a premium here. There’s a lot of people live in this area and also we’re close to the city centre and the university so lots of people do want\u00a0to park here. That’s why we’ve\u00a0got residents parking and tradespeople can take up a reasonable amount of space when they work\u00a0on a particular property but to be honest to lose as many car parking spaces as we do makes it very difficult for residents who do need to park in their street and it makes me angry.”<\/p>\n
One of the contractors currently working in the Cathays area are Paul Baker Construction. They’re working on a property on Senghennydd Road. In a statement they said they don’t agree with the petition but contractors are only on site during normal working hours and so in most cases this shouldn\u2019t cause any problems. They also said skips are needed on sites to keep the roads tidy and remove waste.They say they’re providing a service to property owners in the area.<\/p>\n
Councillor Weaver says the petition will be presented to the council.<\/p>\n
