{"id":16998,"date":"2017-03-10T17:35:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-10T17:35:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=16998"},"modified":"2017-03-10T17:48:02","modified_gmt":"2017-03-10T17:48:02","slug":"call-for-expert-advice-on-impact-of-barry-power-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/call-for-expert-advice-on-impact-of-barry-power-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for expert advice on impact of Barry power plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">People in Barry are asking for independent advice on the impact of a new power plant that will burn waste wood for electricity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Construction on the plant has already begun at Barry Docks, but regulator Natural Resources Wales are still to decide whether to grant a licence for the plant to begin operating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Councillors in Barry want the town council to allocate&nbsp;funding for an independent investigation into the impact of the plant before Natural Resources Wales decides on the licence on 8 May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nic Hodges, Plaid Cymru councillor for Baruc in Barry, says he doesn&#8217;t want the licence to be granted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said: &#8220;People are worried that the gases that are released will be largely trapped and blown across huge parts of the town where they live.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;They want it blocked and I have to say I agree with them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">People living on a street overlooking the site spoke to CJS News about their concerns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eloise Harrhy said: &#8220;To be honest there&#8217;s a lot of people that think really strongly about this and I think you&#8217;ll see a lot of demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;It&#8217;s an absolute nightmare for the people of Barry if I&#8217;m honest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Natural Resources Wales say they are carrying out a thorough assessment of the application for the licence, and are considering raising the concerns made by residents on air quality and public health.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sunshine Renewables, the company that will operate the plant, have been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Barry Town Council will decide on getting expert opinion at a full council meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People in Barry are asking for independent advice on the impact of a new power plant that will burn waste wood for electricity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":201,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[743,744],"tags":[577,1366,1364,1367,364,1363,1365],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16998"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/201"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=16998"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16998\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":17114,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16998\/revisions\/17114"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=16998"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=16998"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=16998"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
