{"id":17461,"date":"2017-11-08T16:02:55","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T16:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=17461"},"modified":"2017-11-08T19:15:20","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T19:15:20","slug":"fly-tipping-increase-worries-splott-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/fly-tipping-increase-worries-splott-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"Fly-tipping increase worries Splott residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Residents in Splott are concerned about fly tipping on their streets.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>They say the area is seeing a rise in the illegal dumping of waste.<\/p>\n<p>Large items, such as sofas and fridges, are being left on land which does not have a license to take them.<\/p>\n<p>Keep Splott Tidy is a community group which has partnered up with Cardiff Council to tackle the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Durrant is the Treasurer of Keep Splott Tidy. He says the amount of dumped waste is harming the local community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Normally the people who do it come from outside the community, and this is what&#8217;s really annoying to most residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just a blight on the community and once one person dumps and its not picked up fast enough, then other people think it&#8217;s quite okay to put household rubbish there as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Before you know it, it becomes a huge mess.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Durrant is calling for harsher fines and the confiscation of vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The current penalties for fly-tipping carry a potential fine of \u00a350,000 or up to a six month prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Cardiff Council are advising people to take down car details and report any incidents.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the Council said &#8220;Fly-tipping is completely unnecessary &#8211; it damages the environment and costs the tax payer a significant amount of money each year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We frequently carry out patrols with partner organisations and stop and request documentation from people carrying waste in their vehicle and this will continue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Two of the Council&#8217;s partner organisations, Keep Splott Tidy and Keep Roath Tidy, have recently been nominated for the &#8216;Cleaner Communities Award&#8217; for helping keep Cardiff&#8217;s streets clean.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Residents in Splott are concerned about fly tipping on their streets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":156,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[743,744],"tags":[757,602],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17461"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/156"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=17461"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17461\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":17793,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17461\/revisions\/17793"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17461"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=17461"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=17461"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
