{"id":18088,"date":"2017-12-11T15:40:24","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T15:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=18088"},"modified":"2017-12-11T15:43:24","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T15:43:24","slug":"welsh-language-campaigners-call-schools-investment-insufficient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/welsh-language-campaigners-call-schools-investment-insufficient\/","title":{"rendered":"Language campaigners call schools investment &#8216;insufficient&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Welsh language campaigners say a \u00a3284 million investment for Cardiff schools is not doing enough to support the growth of the language.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>The plans include building three English language secondary schools.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg say this still will not answer the increase in demand for Welsh language education.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Cardiff council are to discuss the plans on Thursday.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The scheme, put forward jointly by Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government, are part of the council&#8217;s 21<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">st<\/span>\u00a0Century Schools Programme, which aims to modernise education in the city. Willows, Cathays and Catonian High Schools will all be rebuilt to accommodate more pupils.<\/p>\n<p>Graham Norsworthy, who works for Cymdeithas Yr Iaith says his organisation &#8220;want every child in Wales to leave school with the ability to speak Welsh and this investment will not deliver on that&#8221;.
