{"id":18286,"date":"2017-12-13T11:07:03","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T11:07:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=18286"},"modified":"2018-01-19T14:45:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-19T14:45:11","slug":"campaigners-await-decision-on-controversial-cancer-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/campaigners-await-decision-on-controversial-cancer-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaigners wait for decision on cancer hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People campaigning against plans for a new cancer hospital in Whitchurch hope city councillors will rule in their favour at a meeting today.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Cardiff City Council&#8217;s Planning Committee will make a decision this afternoon on whether to give planning permission for a new Velindre Cancer Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The development would be built on meadow land (pictured) in Whitchurch, Cardiff.<\/p>\n<p>But local opinion is split over the 42 bed facility.<\/p>\n<p>Some residents are unhappy at the damage to wildlife the building work will bring to the meadow.<\/p>\n<p>There are also fears over the congestion it will bring to the Whitchurch area.<\/p>\n<p>Whitchurch and Tongwynlais councillors Timothy Davies, Linda Morgan and Mike Phillips have raised an objection to the plans.<\/p>\n<p>They say they are concerned over &#8220;loss of green space to permanent development that goes much further than the existing permissions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But others say that the facility will allow cancer sufferers to be treated in one place, rather than being dispersed around South Wales for different treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Writing in the South Wales Echo, Julie Williams AM said that the existing hospital in Whitchurch needed replacing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With more people being diagnosed and treated for cancer than ever before, it has outgrown this site and needs modernising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If permission is given, the hospital could be open by September 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People campaigning against plans for a new cancer hospital in Whitchurch hope city councillors will rule in their favour at a meeting today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":160,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[744],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18286"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/160"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18286"}],"version-history":[{"count":10,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18286\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":18486,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18286\/revisions\/18486"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18286"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18286"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18286"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
