{"id":19408,"date":"2018-02-20T16:16:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T16:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=19408"},"modified":"2018-02-20T16:16:07","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T16:16:07","slug":"rubbish-is-ruining-cardiff-bay-say-locals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/rubbish-is-ruining-cardiff-bay-say-locals\/","title":{"rendered":"Rubbish is ruining Cardiff Bay say locals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The charity Keep Wales Tidy is among those calling on people to recycle rubbish to protect Cardiff Bay.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The barrage holds water against the oncoming tide, but large amounts of plastics and other general waste is being thrown in and building up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People like to pass the blame when it comes to recycling, but it actually starts with individual responsibility,&#8221; said Keep Wales Tidy spokeswoman Nia Lloyd.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Almost 80% of marine litter comes from land bases,&#8221; she added. &#8220;People need to change their ways to stop this rubbish going into the sea in the first place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The charity said plastic collecting in corners of the barrage also posed a danger to wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>Cardiff Bay is a popular tourist attraction, but for visitors and residents, the state of the water is a concern.<\/p>\n<p>Nicola Johns who lives near the bay, said the sight of the rubbish made her ashamed to live there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were here celebrating a birthday with family and friends last Sunday, we were walking around and it was embarrassing,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bay was packed and all you could hear was people talking about the amount of rubbish in the water.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Johns, who enjoys photographing the bay said the rubbish problem has become so bad she&#8217;s had to edit her pictures to cut out the plastic bags, bottles and even footballs floating in the water.<\/p>\n<p>Another Cardiff resident Caroline James called on the council to take action, saying: &#8220;Somebody here needs to come and pick up the rubbish, there&#8217;s enough bins around here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Cardiff Council said: &#8220;Keeping the water clean is an ongoing task and we would urge people visiting the Bay to dispose of their waste responsibly to help us achieve this.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The charity Keep Wales Tidy is among those calling on people to recycle rubbish to protect Cardiff Bay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":147,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[743,744,750],"tags":[26,347,1426,539,1476,246],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19408"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/147"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=19408"}],"version-history":[{"count":12,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19408\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":19545,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19408\/revisions\/19545"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=19408"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=19408"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=19408"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
