{"id":19409,"date":"2018-02-20T15:14:14","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T15:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=19409"},"modified":"2018-02-20T15:14:14","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T15:14:14","slug":"splotts-dangerous-potholes-prompt-resurfacing-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/splotts-dangerous-potholes-prompt-resurfacing-call\/","title":{"rendered":"Splott&#8217;s &#8216;dangerous potholes&#8217; prompt resurfacing call"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Potholes are endangering cyclists and damaging cars say people in Splott who want roads to be resurfaced.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Large cracks and potholes have appeared across several roads in Splott, including Sanquhar Street and Carlisle Street, and speed bumps have been eroded.<\/p>\n<p>Splott resident, Louise Clarke, said Cardiff Council had fixed individual potholes but because of increased traffic, the surface was wearing away quickly.<\/p>\n<p>She called for the council to provide a more long-term solution: \u201cResurfacing the roads might cost more but it\u2019s actually going to save money in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had to have new tyres and I\u2019m having to pump them up far more frequently than I usually do and one of my suspensions has gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cyclist, Jon Jones added his life was endangered when riding in Splott. He said cyclists had to swerve out of the way of potholes which then put them in the line of moving traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Labour councillor for Splott, Ed Stubbs, said the problem was largely due to Network Rail\u2019s work on Splott Road Bridge which diverted traffic into side-streets.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe work\u2019s being done to electrify the main line but Splott has no rail station.
