{"id":19935,"date":"2018-03-06T16:07:06","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T16:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=19935"},"modified":"2018-03-06T16:07:06","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T16:07:06","slug":"appeal-for-new-postmaster-to-save-tongwynlais-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/appeal-for-new-postmaster-to-save-tongwynlais-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Appeal for new postmaster to save Tongwynlais service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>People in Tongwynlais are worried they will be without a crucial service as the local post office is set to close.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The current postmaster has handed in his notice because of ill health and the post office is due to close on March 17 unless someone else steps in.<\/p>\n<p>Four local councillors have launched an appeal for someone to take over, but so far no-one has responded.<\/p>\n<p>The next nearest post office will be more than a 30-minute walk away in Taff&#8217;s Well, with concerns over the impact on elderly people.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Post Office apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused and are encouraging someone to take over the Tongwynlais branch.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative Councillor for Tongwynlais, Mike Jones-Pritchard is one of the four councillors who started a petition to save the post office, but acknowledged it would be difficult.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;I think the income from this Post Office is something like \u00a36,500 a year so it&#8217;s not something that is sustainable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Margret Steele from Tongwynlais said: &#8220;Where can we go now for a post office? If it&#8217;s Whitchurch or Taff&#8217;s Well, then you have to get a bus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another resident, Paul Jones said: &#8220;It will have a detrimental effect on the old people.
