Residents are concerned about the behaviour\u00a0of aggressive seagulls in Cyncoed.<\/b><\/p>\n
The gulls have begun building nests ahead of breeding season.<\/p>\n
Over the past 10 years, residents said they have had cars damaged and bin bags ripped open.<\/p>\n
Complaints have been made to Cardiff Council, but it was unavailable for comment.<\/p>\n
Moya Campbell has lived in Coed-y-Llyn for more than 30 years. She attaches plastic bags to her car to stop them from landing on it.<\/p>\n
Ms Campbell has said better resources are needed to tackle the birds.<\/p>\n
“We need better bags for our recycling,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Even if they give us another bin for recycling, that might help.”<\/p>\n
Ms Campbell said gull droppings caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to her car.<\/p>\n
All species of gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. This makes it illegal to intentionally injure or kill any gull, or destroy an active nest.<\/p>\n
Lib Dem councillor for Cyncoed Bablin Molik said: “The best thing really that we advise as councillors\u00a0for\u00a0residents to do is get in touch with the pest control teams and the council.<\/p>\n
“It is limited what we can do because they are a protected species, so we must remember that the seagulls shouldn’t be harmed in what action we do.”<\/p>\n
A spokesman for the charity RSPB advised making nest sites inaccessible and not dropping litter.<\/p>\n
“Those best placed to do this are landfill companies and local authorities, but the behaviour of individuals is also important,” he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
