{"id":22703,"date":"2019-02-12T15:43:28","date_gmt":"2019-02-12T15:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=22703"},"modified":"2019-02-12T15:50:54","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T15:50:54","slug":"union-very-concerned-over-cardiff-university-staff-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/union-very-concerned-over-cardiff-university-staff-cuts\/","title":{"rendered":"Union &#8216;very concerned&#8217; over Cardiff University staff cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A union has warned that staff cuts will &#8220;inevitably harm the quality of student provisions at Cardiff University.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Cardiff University branch of UNISON released a statement that raised concerns over <a href=\"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/cardiff-university-to-cut-380-jobs-to-tackle-22-8m-deficit\/\">plans to cut 380 jobs.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Branch Secretary, Katie Hall, said, &#8220;There is a lack of transparency and we don\u2019t believe the university is giving the trade unions the full story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In an email to staff, the university&#8217;s Vice Chancellor, Colin Riordan, announced the job cuts.<\/p>\n<p>In the email, seen by CJS News, Professor Riordan said,\u00a0\u201cI would like to stress that no compulsory redundancies have been proposed to Council at this stage. However, like all universities, we cannot rule out compulsory redundancies in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Twitter today university staff and management have clashed over what the cuts may mean.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\" data-cards=\"hidden\" data-partner=\"tweetdeck\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The following is clear: No replacement hires when staff leave. We have recruitment controls.
