{"id":22827,"date":"2019-02-15T15:07:13","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T15:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=22827"},"modified":"2019-02-15T16:45:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T16:45:30","slug":"calls-for-shopping-centre-at-city-tip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/calls-for-shopping-centre-at-city-tip\/","title":{"rendered":"Calls for a shopping centre at city tip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The organisers of pop-up cafes where householders&#8217; goods are repaired are now calling for a shopping centre next to one of Cardiff&#8217;s tips.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The centre would be based on a Swedish model, made famous by a viral video\u00a0featuring a shopping mall next to a public tip near Stockholm.<\/p>\n<p>Its 14 shops stocks goods which are all recycled or upcycled.<\/p>\n<p>Repair Cafe Wales, where volunteers fix household items for free, says Cardiff council has an &#8220;amazing&#8221; opportunity to do the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>Dr John McCrory, Repair Cafe Wales co-founder says, \u201cWe believe the council should act now because the public consensus is there and it&#8217;s something that can really improve life and the environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jane Henshaw, Labour councillor for Splott, where one of Cardiff&#8217;s repair cafes is based, also believes it&#8217;s an &#8220;absolutely brilliant idea&#8221; which\u00a0&#8220;can&#8217;t happen quickly enough&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment,\u00a0 people can donate unwanted household goods to the British Heart Foundation charity by putting them in shipping containers at city recycling centres.
