{"id":23029,"date":"2019-02-22T15:26:39","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T15:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=23029"},"modified":"2019-02-22T15:41:34","modified_gmt":"2019-02-22T15:41:34","slug":"litter-and-dog-fouling-a-huge-problem-in-barry-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/litter-and-dog-fouling-a-huge-problem-in-barry-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Litter and dog fouling a &#8216;huge problem&#8217; in Barry Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Shop owners in Barry Island say dog fouling and litter on the beach is affecting tourism.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Marc Mitchell, who owns The Beach shop says: &#8220;It&#8217;s a huge problem and undoubtedly puts people off returning to the island.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When they visit and the place is awash with litter, the beach with overflowing bins, it leaves a bad taste.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He says the council should put bins on the beaches to help tackle the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Vale of Glamorgan Council have proposed increasing on the spot fines for littering from \u00a375 to \u00a3100 by April but residents argue it should be even higher.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;ve been a number of complaints on Twitter about dog fouling as well as litter.
