{"id":23191,"date":"2019-03-01T11:52:26","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T11:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=23191"},"modified":"2019-03-01T16:06:41","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T16:06:41","slug":"cardiff-council-tax-increase-how-much-will-it-cost-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/cardiff-council-tax-increase-how-much-will-it-cost-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardiff Council tax increase &#8211; how much will it cost you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Council tax in Cardiff will rise by 4.9% after the council approved a new budget last night.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This means that if you are in a Band D property, you will pay an extra \u00a31.09 per week &#8211; about \u00a356 per year.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of cremations, burials and rehoming dogs will all increase.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Costs of cremations will rise from \u00a3560 to \u00a3640<\/li>\n<li>Burials will increase\u00a0from \u00a3660 to \u00a3760<\/li>\n<li>The cost of re-homing\u00a0a dog will go up by \u00a330 and a puppy by \u00a310<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rise is more than double the rate of inflation (1.8% in January) and is set\u00a0to plug a \u00a332 million budget gap in Cardiff next year.<\/p>\n<p>On top of this, the council will make savings across all departments which could lead to more than 50 job losses\u00a0in street cleansing, waste management and libraries.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a310 million has been set aside for schools and a further \u00a35 million for social services, the only two sectors to see their budgets increase.<\/p>\n<p>The value of Welsh Government grants to councils has dropped by \u00a3918.5m in 2017-18, compared to 2009-10.
