Community group Keep Grangetown Tidy want more to be done to tackle the litter at Cardiff Bay Retail Park, which they say blows into neighbouring Grangemoor Park.<\/p>\n
The litter has been a problem for many years, according to the group, but it has been increasingly worse over recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Fiona McCallister, a volunteer from Keep Grangetown Tidy, said:\u201cIt makes me angry because the businesses on the retail park are here to make a profit. So it would be quite nice if they showed they cared about the environment and the neighbourhood they\u2019re based in<\/p>\n
We will keep trying to get into a dialogue with people like McDonald\u2019s and maybe eventually they\u2019ll start talking to us and maybe we can work together. We\u2019d be very happy to work with some of the businesses down there. If they could give us some support, I think it works to everyone\u2019s benefit\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The community group say that retailers such as McDonald’s are a particular concern.<\/p>\n
In a statement, a spokesperson for McDonald’s UK said: “\u201c<\/span><\/i>It is of the utmost importance to us to be a good neighbour and we are committed to playing our part in tackling litter, which includes our long-standing support of various Keep Wales Tidy campaigns.<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n The Labour Councillor for Grangetown, Ashley Lister, thinks a collaborative effort may solve the issue: “All the stores and outlets there actually pay the management company to maintain that land. the grass verges are on that land. The park is in the local authority’s remit, but there’s nothing to stop a partnership approach.<\/p>\n “I think that’s really what we need to take forward.
