{"id":24051,"date":"2019-11-13T21:24:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-13T21:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=24051"},"modified":"2020-01-28T15:28:06","modified_gmt":"2020-01-28T15:28:06","slug":"anger-over-late-night-mcdonalds-in-llanishen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/anger-over-late-night-mcdonalds-in-llanishen\/","title":{"rendered":"Anger over late night McDonalds in Llanishen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Plans to open a new late-night McDonalds in Llanishen have been criticised by local residents.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new restaurant, already under construction, would remain\nopen until 5am under the plans, which protesters have argued will not only increase\ncongestion, but also promote unhealthy eating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would mean the availability of fast-food almost around\nthe clock within two hundred yards of a local primary school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Popular Cardiff Twitter account @ILovesTheDiff promoted the protest, sarcastically tweeting: \u201cIt\u2019s great that obesity isn\u2019t a concern in Wales.\u201d The tweet was shared more than a hundred times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resident Peter Hunt called it \u201can absolute joke\u201d, arguing\nthat the local Llanishen chip shop would be disadvantaged by trading\nrestrictions that would not apply to McDonald\u2019s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further concerns were raised about an increase in litter and\nanti-social behaviour near the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However local resident Paul Fish, 41, has told CJS News that\nthe fears are unfounded: \u201cI do not see what the fuss is about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor too long the people of North Cardiff have seen\napplication after application for take aways and the like refused by Cardiff\nCouncil, which has meant missing out or having to trek down to Western Avenue or\nthe Birchgrove Area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fish added that the McDonalds would \u201cbring jobs back to the\nsite following the closure of the Harvester [which the McDonalds will replace]\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardiff Council said the matter was not a council issue but\nreiterated that \u201cplanning applications were considered within the laws they\nhave to operate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Protesters have until 4<sup>th<\/sup> December to lodge a response to the proposal with the Cardiff licensing authority. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plans to open a new late-night McDonalds in Llanishen have been criticised by local residents.
