{"id":24161,"date":"2020-01-28T14:18:50","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T14:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=24161"},"modified":"2020-08-27T09:32:08","modified_gmt":"2020-08-27T09:32:08","slug":"homeowners-fear-collapse-of-rotten-trees-in-gwaelod-y-garth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/homeowners-fear-collapse-of-rotten-trees-in-gwaelod-y-garth\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeowners fear collapse of  rotten trees in Gwaelod-Y-Garth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>People in Gwaelod-Y-Garth say they are in imminent danger from dangerous trees that lean over their homes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An independent survey commissioned by residents has found that five trees of around 23 metres in height are at risk of collapsing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey was commissioned after what residents say was a lack of safety assurance from the council, and found one ash tree required an &#8220;emergency takedown&#8221; The road is also a main route for many children who walk to Gwaelod-Y-Garth Primary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video controls poster=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/TreesSocialVid.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption><strong>Nick O&#8217;Keefe who lives on the road<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Initial concerns about the trees on council-owned land were raised by residents to the parks department of Cardiff Council in 2016. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After visible deterioration and multiple requests to the council for assurances over the trees\u2019 condition, residents decided to take matters into their own hands and paid approximately \u00a3600 for Wilson Tree Surveys in Ceredigion to carry out a safety and condition survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was only a fortnight ago that Cardiff Council informed residents that they will take action but the date for the work is yet to be set.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People in Gwaelod-Y-Garth say they are in imminent danger from dangerous trees that lean over their homes.
