{"id":24587,"date":"2020-02-11T15:49:39","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T15:49:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=24587"},"modified":"2020-02-11T16:54:42","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T16:54:42","slug":"8-year-olds-inspiring-campaign-to-save-school-fields","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/8-year-olds-inspiring-campaign-to-save-school-fields\/","title":{"rendered":"Extinction Rebellion hail 8-year-old&#8217;s &#8216;inspiring&#8217; campaign to save Pwll Coch school fields"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A protest to save a playing field at Pwll Coch primary\nschool has gained significant support \u2013 after an eight-year-old boy wrote to\nExtinction Rebellion asking for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flynn Dee told the environmental protest group the council\ndecision to replace the field with a car park and an artificial football pitch\nwas \u2018insane\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The field has been closed for several months after being\ndeemed \u2018contaminated\u2019 by the council \u2013 but parents dispute this definition,\narguing that if it can be decontaminated for the development, it could have\nbeen decontaminated for the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Extinction Rebellion told CJS News that Flynn&#8217;s protest was &#8216;inspiring&#8217;, adding that it was &#8216;sad that an eight year old is having to point out the issues that will affect him&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardiff Council have yet to respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before his letter, the number of complaints on the council\nwebsite was just three; more than thirty have added their objections since. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flynn\u2019s mother, Jay Dee, says he was inspired to write after seeing an Extinction Rebellion sign when walking home from school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe said to me \u2018the rebels will help us\u2019\u201d she said, \u201cand\nwhen he said it there was real hope in his eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flynn wants to be First Minister when he grows up, in order\nto make \u201cbetter decisions\u201d. He told CJS News: \u201cwhen people grow up and go to Pwll\nCoch I will take away the car park and give back their cae [field].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jay Dee says the council has let the children down in\npresenting them with the plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen they\u2019re shown plans by the council to say this is the\nnew facilities, they can see that there\u2019s going to be new things \u2013 new pitches,\nnew swimming pools \u2013 what they can\u2019t see is that none of that is going to\nbelong to them, they won\u2019t have access to any of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The parents are not against the development of Fitzalan High.
