The gentle/radical film club in Cardiff is celebrating fifteen years. It is a cultural project in Wales to have sustained delivery of arts activities to diverse communities over a decade said Rabab Ghazoul, the founder of the club.

Ms. Ghazoul says that the club aims to make culture more accessible to certain groups, particularly women from different marginalised groups and communities who aren’t always able to access main-stream culture.

“People in the city can really feel comfortable to meet, watch and discuss films, in culturally sensitive environments,” she adds.

The anniversary event was held this week at Samaj Hindu Temple space in Cardiff, providing different kinds of activities, including short films, talks, workshops and lunch. More than 20 women participated in the event.

Among the short films screening, one was an animation piece, Earthly Delights about sex, death and snails by Efa Blosse Mason.

“It is a story about two gardeners with different thoughts of morals. One of them likes everything to be straight and perfect, and he doesn’t care about any little creatures while his next door neighbor is a nudist who feels everything is at peace and she adores nature, ” She says.

The next screening will be an inter-generational film event in which they’re looking forward to welcoming film lovers of all ages on May 2nd.
