Getting involved in health research

An event at Cardiff City Stadium today has been held to encourage more people to join in Wales health research.

HealthWise Wales is a dedicated research programme to involve everyone aged 16 or over in improving the healthcare in Wales. The project will actively engage the public in research to identify key research priorities.

Shantini Paranjothy, the Scientific Lead for HealthWise Wales, believes the project to be unique. She thinks it will make a real difference since it will bring together the public, policy makers, and researchers into a forum. They will discuss whether research questions are appropriate and applicable or not. Then, scientists could carry out high quality research.

Catherine Harrison, the Business Development Manger of Pride Cymru, joined HealthWise Wales and attended the event. She says it is a really interesting project because this work could also provide health-related data based on the LGBT community.

The project is still facing a challenge. Members of the team are trying to cover the whole Wales and all types of communities. But if they promote the project well and the marketing campaign works, they are confident that it could be really beneficial.
