“Wales Millennium Centre aims to embrace the local communities as well as the range of diverse cultures and nationalities within the WMC (Wales Millennium Centre). [They] try to ensure that different performances and events within the venue are accessible to all within Cardiff.”

The Wales Millennium centre’s current, all-inclusive ethos is prominent during this festive season with the return of their critically acclaimed series: Performances for the Curious.

Performances for the Curious

Returning for its second season, Performances for the Curious showcases exciting, compelling and thought-provoking new work from the very best in contemporary theatre and performance. The series of twenty-five performances runs from October 24th2018.  Its witty programme is all-encompassing of comedy, cabaret, drag, music, spoken word and scratch nights. Themes and matters within the series glance at today’s modernized society, challenging perceptions and the celebration of individuality.

Performances include Duckie: an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, with an enthralling account of tolerance and self-acceptance at its root. Additionally, amiable Cabaret figure Le Gateau Chocolat captivates the stage in Icons, as he delves deep into his inner self, in a delicate tale of identity and modern day belonging.

Ropa Madhlangobe, Welsh Millennium Centre Member commented on what she believes is behind the series’ success:

“As well as being able to enjoy traditional theatre such as The Welsh National Opera and the BBC Orchestra of Wales, you can also see a variety of vibrant, cultural performances that are current, and relatable to those in society today. I think that’s really amazing to see, especially in a city like Cardiff where life is so diverse.”
