The beating heart of a vibrant city, Womanby Street is more than just another late night destination. It’s hosted bands such as The Killers, Kasabian and the Kaiser Chiefs. It’s the expression of a generation. It’s the community of like-minded people that feel the thrill of live music and the passion of self expression. 

Situated across from the castle and Principality Stadium, and based in one of Cardiff’s oldest streets, this live music hub now dominates the Welsh cultural landscape. Boasting five independent venues; Clwb Ifor Bach, Fuel, The Bootlegger, The Moon and Tiny Rebel, the Cardiff’s indie scene revolves this ancient road, which is beautifully adorned with contemporary urban art. It’s a place where music, language and culture mix.

Some of Wales’ most internationally renowned musical artists gained their big break on Womanby Street. From the Super Furry Animals to Gwenno Suanders and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci to Cerys Matthews’ Catatonia, all have played their part in writing the history of this special community. However, it hasn’t been an easy journey. In 2017, threatened with development applications, hundreds of people flooded onto the street to demonstrate to ‘Save Womanby Street’. After months of heated debate, petitions and protest the street was saved from the corporate developers and the law was eventually changed. A testament to the devotion and passion this little street inspires it was awarded protected status and a commitment by the Council to work with the venues in the future. Cherished, loved, defended and it is now the Small Street that made the Big Noise.
