People who live in Cadoxton in Barry say work being carried out by the Vale of Glamorgan Council is making roads unsafe.
This follows an incident in which 16-year-old Morgan Ackerman died after being hit by a taxi on Barry Road on January 3rd. South Wales Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident involving a white Skoda Octavia taxi at 10:30pm.
The Council are widening pavements around Cadoxton which is making the roads smaller. This is forcing cars into the centre of the roads and into the path of oncoming traffic.
Barry Road is one of the main roads in Cadoxton where the Council are widening pavements. There have been calls from people in the town for something to be done to slow traffic on the road. However, people in Cadoxton say the Vale of Glamorgan council has made roads more dangerous by extending the pavements into the roads.
Anne Usher, who lives in Cadoxton, says the Council have failed to do anything to improve road safety despite the recent incident.
“If you’re coming out of a side road, as you’re pulling out to turn left or right, you are hitting that central line which cuts down the amount of space you’ve got to get through with other cars coming towards you. This is a serious issue when lives are being lost” says Miss Usher.

“It’s unnerving because where they’re bringing out the pavements onto the roads you’re forever judging spaces to get through” says Miss Usher.
The Vale of Glamorgan council has been unavailable for comment.
