Campaigners say even if proposals for a new development in Creigiau are approved they will continue fighting for their transport concerns to be addressed.
1,500 new homes, offices and a park and ride are all planned in Creigiau as part of Cardiff City Council’s Local Development Plan.
But campaigners say the development will increase pressure on already gridlocked roads in the area.
Gavin Hill-John, a Conservative Councillor for nearby Pentyrch, says “The local main roads as we know can’t cope already. There are clearly issues across the board and none of this is being addressed.”
“There are no convincing proposals for transport alternatives which could persuade a large portion of new and current locals to use them.”
He also says the proposed park and ride lacks a clear plan and doesn’t consider the nearby busy roads.
“There is no clear defined plan, its just ‘we are going to do this’.”
If the plans are approved Cllr Hill-John says he will make sure that the views of his constituents are represented and their concerns are addressed.
But Councillor Ramesh Patel, cabinet member for planning and sustainability, says that the LDP offers an exciting opportunity for Cardiff.
“It will enable us to have affordable new homes constructed. Sustainable homes, suitable for families and our growing population.”
Cardiff City Planning Committee will make a final decision on the plans tomorrow.
