Fire engine and cars parked on Cromwell Road in Birchgrove

‘Lives put at risk’ by Birchgrove parking say residents

27 February 2018

Lives are risk because over-parking is blocking emergency vehicles on Cromwell Road say Birchgrove residents.

Local people have stepped up their campaign, calling on Cardiff Council to bring in resident-only parking and double yellow lines.

Steve Hill, Birchgrove Neighbourhood Watch coordinator, said: “It’s only recently that a fire engine attending the street couldn’t gain access.”

He added: “We have had to put up with the issues of poor parking by visitors to the area for some time.

“Hospital-goers, shoppers and even pub-goers have inconvenienced us and put our lives at risk.”

A spokesperson for Cardiff Council said:

“The vehicles shown in the picture that has been posted on social media are parked legally.

“If they are causing an obstruction to the road – this is a police matter – as the council doesn’t have powers to enforce against obstruction of highways or footways.

“If the [local] councillor would like to make contact with the council to talk through any possible solutions that may be able to put in place on this street, or Richs Road, we are happy to set up a meeting to discuss.”
