No parking for Barry housing development is “dangerous”

8 November 2016

Barry residents will meet later today with the developer who’s turning the United Reformed Church on Windsor Road into flats and offices. The residents are protesting because the development has no parking.

A local protest group have estimated that there will be an extra 58 cars trying to park on the surrounding roads which are already ‘saturated.’ Wrap Around Resident’s Action Group say the extra cars will be ‘dangerous’ for residents, particularly children who use the nearby roads to walk to school.

The protest group says more cars parking on their road will affect their privacy.  Around 90 people joined in with a recent protest held by the group outside the Church.

The protest group says even though Vale of Glamorgan Council were approached by another developer who would include on-site parking, they’re still going ahead with the current developer.

A spokesperson for the developer, DS Properties, says it would be ‘economically unviable’ to include on-site parking but good transport links near the new development means that new residents wouldn’t necessarily need cars.

Nobody from Vale of Glamorgan Council was available for comment.
