‘Danger’ warning over damaged water tanks

6 March 2018

A Cardiff-based plumbing business is warning home owners they could be in danger from water tanks affected by the cold snap.

Limegreen Heating and Plumbing say their phones have been ringing non-stop since snow and freezing temperatures hit Wales.

Burst water tanks, pipes and broken-down boilers have been among the problems as the thaw set in.

Rhys Gayle, who manages Limegreen Heating and Plumbing said water tanks could be stored in loft spaces and if they burst then people could be seriously injured.

Mr Gayle said: “The other thing is, people could be suffering in the cold because boilers have broken down in these horrendous temperatures.

“I suggest people check out their houses more thoroughly, do a full M.O.T on it really. They need to get it checked out in order to prevent these issues from going any further or happening in the future.”

Meanwhile, mains water pipe bursts have left hundreds of people cut off for days. This morning, Welsh Water said: “We want to sincerely apologise to customers who are still seeing problems with their supply. We have been working to ensure our water treatment works continue working, but we are finding it difficult to keep up with demand to maintain supplies to customers.”

“We have reduced the number affected from 6,000 to 1,500 and we can confirm supplies have been restored to Clydach Vale and Abertillery.”

Welsh Water are asking people not to leave taps running as they work on resolving the issues and refilling the water network.
