Gun crime in Wales soars by 80%, new figures show

9 February 2018

Gun crime in south Wales has gone up by 80% over the past five years, figures show.

The Office for National Statistics says the number of crimes involving guns has increased every year since 2012.

South Wales Police says it is also increasingly worried about the spread of gang culture from London to other regions, including Cardiff.

The force says gang members carrying knives move to other cities to sell drugs, sparking the rise in violent crime.

Crimestoppers wants youngsters in Cardiff to report violent crime.

The charity’s Ella Rabaiotti said “We are responding to emerging challenges around knife crime through providing information and resources and will continue to support campaigns to help make communities safer.”
