Meet the man who makes travel and adventure look easy, all from the comfort of his van

Nate Murphy lives and breathes an exciting life bursting of activity and productivity. He rock climbs, he creates music, he writes guides, he cooks and of course, he lives in a van. Travelling across multiple continents such as North America, Asia and currently, Europe, Nate has adapted and converted his mobile home to cope with all scenarios.

From his 8 months living the van life, Nate has become talented in van conversions and hacks for on-the-road living. You can follow his detailed and handy how-to guides online, or watch some of his adrenaline-filled videos on YouTube. If you want to see some thrilling climbs, or learn how to live efficiently in your van, it’s all here.

“For me, van living is not the end goal. It is simply a tool to enable me to do everything I want to do”

With a growing presence online, the perks of van living are becoming more apparent to aspirational van livers. Despite this, Nate denies that his popularity has affected how he lives.

“The recent building of my YouTube channel has not really affected my lifestyle other than giving me a bit more to do in terms of replying to comments. That said, I do get recognised by people in most places I go. This is mainly because climbers are really into the van life thing as well.”

For anyone who is on the verge of investing into the van lifestyle, Nate says that you’ve got to work out what’s best for you. He says that to buy an already converted van is expensive, but to convert one yourself is equally strenuous in the hard work needed to make it inhabitable.

“Just go for it! Use the time to learn new things, write that book you always wanted to or something that adds value to your life outside of generating money”

Nate shares what drives him forward (no, not fuel), why he recommends the van life and much more in our first print issue, which you can find here.
