World Book Day: A celebration of authors, books and reading!

Thursday 2nd March 2017 marks World Book Day. We’ve come up with some ways for you to get celebrating

This Thursday, World Book Day will be celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. It’s a day to honour our favourite authors, remember stories that have captured our imaginations and longfully wish that one day, we too can become creative writing geniuses.

World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries

Although typically celebrated by kids rocking Roald Dahl inspired fancy dress and getting tokens for free books — where’s the the love for the adults, eh? — there’s nothing stopping us wallflowers from getting stuck into the festivities too. After all, who doesn’t love a good book? Have a ball on World Book Day with these ideas:

  1. Dress up!

If children can don fancy dress, who says that we can’t have some fun with it too! If you’re itching to have a go, but don’t want to go all out — going to work in fancy dress may prove a little problematic — why not go for a subtle approach? Put on some cat ears and boots to go as, you guessed it, Puss in Boots, rock a black robe and go as a Harry Potter character, or put a red ribbon in your hair for Matilda.

  1. Start a book club

All you need for this are a few, fellow reading enthusiasts, an awesome book and some good food. Book clubs provide the perfect opportunity to share thoughts about novels you’re reading in loads of detail and tuck into some delicious munchies too.

  1. Treat yo’ self

A day that celebrates books? Sounds like the perfect excuse to get down to your local bookshop and pick up a new novel…or three! If you want some brilliant new reads but aren’t looking to fork out for them, why not have a browse in your local library? You’re bound to come across some fantastic finds.

  1. Have a book day

World Book Day is the perfect occasion for staying in and simply reading all day. Why not take the day off work (if you can of course), put on your most comfortable pyjamas, grab some snacks and get reading?
