There’s a ton of budget-friendly activities to enjoy in the Welsh capital
Living in Cardiff is great. There’s beautiful parks, beaches and towns within reaching distance, as well as an abundance of family activities for you and your little ones.
If you live here or you’re just visiting for the day, here are five fun family days out that the family can enjoy in the Welsh capital without blowing your budget.
St Fagans Natural History Museum
Cost: Free
This 100-acre open air museum is full of exhibitions revealing Cardiff’s past. Your kids will be enchanted by the re-erected buildings from various ages that they can explore inside and out. While on the grounds, you’ll also see native breeds of livestock, farmed daily. St Fagans run many events and talks on that are suited to families too.
The Cardiff Mystery Treasure Trail
Cost: £6.99 per trail (Suitable for up to 5 people)
This cost-effective family day has you following trails around the city centre and Cardiff Bay on a self-guided treasure hunt. The whole family can get involved whilst discovering all the history Cardiff has to offer. There’ also a chance to win £100 in their monthly prize drawer.
Wales Millennium Centre
Cost: Free
The centre entertains families with their many free performances, or with family craft events every Saturday from 11am – 4pm with a different theme each week. Toddler time is an event for your younger ones, where they can sing, dance, play and create at the centre with a programme of activities for you and your little one.
Cefn Mably Farm Park
Cost: £4.50 weekdays / £6.50 weekends
Cefn Mably is a unique mix of soft play and farm areas that will keep your child entertained for hours. Open daily 10am – 5pm, there’s a soft play barn, animals to feed, go-karts to ride and diggers to play on. Once the day of play is over, you can browse in the farm shop.
National Museum Cardiff
Cost: Free
There’s plenty for families and children at the National Museum in Cardiff. The Natural History galleries take you on a tour of wildlife in Wales from woodlands to the seashore, whilst the art galleries are home to amazing paintings, drawings and sculptures from the last 500 years. The museum also holds events such as toddler time to help families navigate the museum through play.
