Self-care was the trend of the year in 2018, use apps to destress
These days there’s an app for everything, and there are many to help with our wellbeing. Wellness apps are now commonplace, free and easily accessible. Here’s my thoughts:
Mindfulness Daily
What does it do?
Reminds users to take time to “check-in with yourself” to help improve self-awareness.
What did I think?
I loved the combination of visual and audio cues to help
mindfulness and meditation.
Often, closing your eyes and practising breathing techniques can get boring. The images of nature on Mindfulness Daily’s can ground you and keep you engaged.
Optional reminders throughout the day help you remember to take pauses. Being mindful becomes a habit as you don’t even have to be on the app for this.

Shine
What does it do?
Gives users daily positive messages to inspire productivity, help reduce stress and promote “feeling more joy”.
What did I think?
I was a big fan of this app. It was amazing that I could create a personalised self-care plan. This was tailored to whatever I wanted to improve. Including reducing stress and feeling happier in the workplace.
The optional daily ‘Text’ was brilliant, it encourages users to start their day with an interesting and forward-thinking thought to help adjust unhealthy habits and improve self-care.

Calm
What does it do?
Calm creates seven-day mindfulness programmes to help reduce daily anxieties and fight stress using breathing techniques, music and video to aid with sleep and relaxation. It was the winner of the Apple Best of 2018 award and has been named “the world’s happiest app”
What did I think?
The meditation was really easy to understand and enjoyable to follow. Downloading the meditation for offline use was a really great feature.
