Recycling on the road is easy with our guide on how to reduce waste

We can all be a bit lazy when it comes to our recycling but it’s not as easy when you’re travelling from one place to the next in your van. So here are a few tips on how you can reduce, reuse and recycle when living life on the road.

Stop and think about your purchases

Deciding to buy products that produce less waste is a good place to start. Products that generate more waste, send more trash to landfills which is damaging to the environment.

Of course the best way to get rid of waste is to avoid using it all together, but sometimes that’s just impossible. However there are little things that you can do to to minimise waste. Instead of buying new packets and boxes of food, you should invest in some tupperware boxes to store all of your dried foods and cereals.

Get rid before it builds up

Especially in the summer months you don’t want your van to stink out so get into the habit of taking your recycling out regularly. Make it part of your daily routine to get rid of your recycling as you leave your parking spot. More importantly doing this will help keep the mice and pests away.

So when you’re looking for you next pit stop in a local town, keep an eye out for some recycling bins.

A number of bins is better than one

If you stick to one bin it’s tempting just to chuck everything into one and never bother sorting through it. However getting organised with two or three bins with one for your cardboard, plastic and glass, recycling will become second nature. Even better, you could reuse cardboard boxes which will work just as well.

It’s not as difficult to keep up to your environmental principles while travelling on the road, it just takes a little bit more time and effort.

Happy recycling!
