Vanalogue explores three ways to make your van cleaner and greener

Being clean and green has become an important pre-occupation for many in the 21st Century. However, with an all-important reliance on our automotive friends we here at Vanalogue have proposed three ways in which you can make your van greener this 2017.

It is easy to be a little bit greener on the road when you know how

Liquid Petroleum Gas

In the early 2000s this was a craze that shook the nation, but back in 2005 when government subsidiaries ended this was an incentive which was unfortunately shelved. That being said, it remained popular throughout many European countries such as: France, Italy, Poland and Germany with the latter having 17 LPG manufactures under its engineering belt.

However, it is now an emerging option for many who have taken to life on the move. In 2014 alone, UK drivers saved £66 million by converting their vehicles to LPG. Therefore, saving money is just one of the perks converting your van to LPG could bring. But, there are more benefits then that this cleaner fuel will help to maximise your van’s performance and power. The switch to LPG has immediate effects on the environment as it emits 20% carbon then petrol and diesel. It’s not just the environment you’ll be saving either, every year some 29,000 people die due to poor air quality, so the cleaner the air the more lives that will be saved.

In order to make the change, go to an LPGA installer, however before you sign on the dotted line ask to see their appropriate certification as insurance companies will often as for this too.

Save money and feel greener!

Electric

Alternatively, you could take your van down the all-electric route. Electric cars have the ability to travel from 40 – 100 miles before they need refuelling allowing van travellers to pitch up and enjoy a break from driving behind the wheel. Here at Vanalogue we’ve compiled a list of some electric power points across the UK to help you plan some destination orientated routes:

Although there are other perks to making that change, if you ever have to pass through the concrete jungle that is London then you are eligible for a discount in the London Congestion Zone which currently stands at a daily charge of £11.50. In particular, cars and vans that do not exceed 3.5 tonnes and emit less than 75g/km or less of Co2 and meet the Euro 5 standard for air quality will be completely exempt from this charge. Some of these vans include: Renault Kangoo Van ZE, Nissan e-NV200 Acenta, Nissan e-NV200 combi electric 80Kw Acenta auto and the Nissan e-NV200 Evalia electric 80Kw Tekna radpid auto, while these vans don’t ooze the same the sex appeal as the classic VW camper vans they are the perfect working man’s car and provide for an excellent way to take off at the weekends.

Hybrid

Hybrid vehicles are also exempt from paying the congestion zone charge if they are registered via their V5C document. However, if your vehicle is a plug-in hybrid then you’ll need to supply a conformity document along with the application. Hybrid cars function by using battery power when fuel is not necessary. When the vehicle is at a complete stop the engine will shut off and automatically power back on when the accelerator is pressed.
