North Wales offers lots of options to stop and take in the fresh mountain air

There’s something about setting off and hitting the open road that is quite simply impulsive. Stepping out of the van and smelling the fresh mountain air this spring will give you no better feeling – we promise. Combined with the exhilarating feeling of not knowing where you will be in a week’s time, what could get better? Here at Vanalogue our first three destinations will take you through the heart of North Wales.

Clwydian range

A mountain range that was designated in 1985 as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), it’s one of the only protected landscapes in Wales, but perfect for those cycle enthusiasts. The summit begins in Llandela in the south and Prestatyn in the north. Its maximum altitude rises to 554 metres – perfect for optimum cycling potential. Bases to park that still give cycling potential include: Mold, Ruthin and Denbigh. These sites have ben graded via ridetheclwyds, so you can pick one to suit your level.

Snowdonia

From the mountain range, head to Wales’s first national park: Snowdonia. It was established as the third national park in Britain it still houses 26,000 residents within its forest borders. The park can be divided into four distinct areas. And, is considered and ideal spot for mountain walking as our very own Luke Meates experienced:

“It was alright,” he’s far too modest.

Luke trekked up the Rhinog part of Snowdonia with friends on a weekend excursion.  And, when we came into the office bright and early Monday morning he had this to say: “The differences in terrain and beautiful scenery made it a real adventure.”

Anglesey

After a trek around Snowdonia, what would be more relaxing then a drive around Anglesey. It’s the largest island in Wales and is connected to the mainland by two bridges: the Menai Suspension bridge and the Britannia bridge. There are low hills spaced on the island which will make for a breezy drive. There are three main cities of interest: Menai, Beaumaris and Holyhead. And, from Holyhead’s port ferries are scheduled to Ireland directly so you can move onto your next destination in no time.
