Charlotte England can expect to face tough competition in the finals

A fashion design student from the University of South Wales has reached the final of a national competition run by Graduate Fashion Week to design a new collection of ladieswear.

Charlotte England, who is in her second year at the university, was selected from hundreds of entrants to the competition which will coincide with Graduate Fashion Week in June. Miss England’s designs will be featured in the gala show at the London-based graduate event.

The competition will take place in front of an audience of celebrities, media and industry experts and will be live streamed around the world.

The student said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be a finalist and am nervous and excited at the same time. I have to produce three outfits from my collection by April for the Graduate Fashion Week show event alongside my coursework.

“I can’t believe I’ve been chosen from all the hundreds of entries from around the UK. It is an amazing opportunity and my mum is so proud of me.”

The winner will be given the opportunity of two weeks’ paid work experience at George at Asda and a cash prize of £2,000 provided by George and Disney.They will also be invited to grace the red carpet at the premiere of Disney’s latest film, Maleficent.

Irene Dee, Fashion Design course leader, said: “Charlotte’s work has been of a very high calibre and to reach the final of such a prestigious event is a remarkable achievement for her.”
