St Patrick's Day: What is it and what's on?

St Patrick’s Day is notorious for worldwide celebrations and drinking as much Guinness as possible as the Irish at heart observe the day of the patron saint of Ireland.

What began as a religious feast day has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing and drinking.

Traditionally, the day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates Irish heritage and culture.

Christians also attend church services throughout the day, and Leten restrictions on eating certain foods and drinking alcohol are lifted for the day, which has encouraged the holiday tradition of drinking on a global scale.
