Our pundits give their verdicts on England cricket’s summer so far

AS the third test match between England and Sri Lanka takes place at Lord’s, we looked at the key aspects of England’s summer so far.

Glen Williams, Jack Vittles and Bethan Moorcraft addressed the main talking points surrounding this current crop.

We discussed that hotly contested No 3 position in the England top order. Several contenders including Scott Borthwick, Ian Bell as well as Joe Root are discussed for their claims to succeed Nick Compton.

We also looked at the make-up of this England bowling line-up. We talked through the brilliant summer that England’s new-ball pairing James Anderson and Stuart Broad are enjoying, as well as Alistair Cook’s options for third and fourth choice seamers.

The young and talented quick bowlers coming through the county circuit can not be ignored, and we debated the next likely candidates to follow in Anderson and Broad’s footsteps.

As that ever-present question of the England spin problem is brought to light – we talked through the reasons why England struggle to produce world class spin bowling, as well as England’s current spin prospects.

We also preview the upcoming Pakistan series and the threats Misbah Ul-Haq’s men will pose as they travel here later this summer.
