Newport County have signed former Cardiff City defender Darcy Blake on a free transfer.

Blake, 25, has joined Justin Edinburgh’s side on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

He has been training with Championship side Birmingham City since February.

The versatile utility player left Cardiff in 2012 having played 90 times for the club.

He has 14 caps for Wales, including a memorable Euro 2012 qualifier against an England side that featured Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard at Wembley.

Blake hit the post in a South Wales Derby in February 2011.
